Ahegao is a Japanese time period used to explain an expression of utmost pleasure or ecstasy, usually depicted in anime and manga. The time period is derived from the Japanese phrases “ahe” (that means “to sigh”) and “gao” (that means “face”). Ahegao faces are usually characterised by wide-open eyes, a gaping mouth, and a flushed face.
Ahegao faces are sometimes used to precise sexual pleasure, however they can be used to precise different feelings, resembling shock, pleasure, and even ache. In some instances, ahegao faces could also be used for comedic impact.
