SIP address, also known as a Session Initiation Protocol Uniform Resource Identifier (SIP URI), is a unique identifier for a user or device on a SIP network. It is similar to an email address, but is used for VoIP (Voice over IP) and instant messaging. A SIP address consists of a username, an “@” symbol, and a domain name. For example, “username@example.com” is a valid SIP address.
SIP addresses are important because they allow users to communicate with each other over a SIP network. They are also used to identify users and devices for the purposes of authentication and authorization. SIP addresses can be used with a variety of SIP-based applications, including VoIP phones, softphones, and instant messaging clients.
